Anna Lee Winfrey, age 88, of Sedalia passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Bothwell Regional Health Center where she was not alone. Her loving God and her son and two grandsons were with her. She was born on January 17, 1926 in Alton, MO daughter of John William and Glenna Coble Chapin. She was married on April 1, 1949 in Marshall, MO to Roy Winfrey who preceded her in death on May 7, 1976.

Anna loved her family so very much. She also loved her church, her church family and Pastor Ted. Her church family visited with her regularly. She so very much especially loved her grandchildren. When you would mention her grandchildren her eyes would light up. She was also, as of September 19, a great grandmother to Jacob. Grannie was able to see pictures of little Jacob before she went to be with the Lord. She was very sick when shown the pictures, but they brought a big smile to her face.

Anna was always involved in her church and church functions. She for many years was a faithful member of the Hughesville Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for the primary class. She was also involved every summer in vacation Bible school, where she helped shape very young peoples lives. She enjoyed helping others, in any way that she possibly could. She was always there to help, never expecting anything in return. Anna and her husband Roy would always put out big gardens when living in and around Hughesville. Even after they moved to Sedalia, she would have a garden. Her house was always surrounded by flowers, rose bushes, crepe myrtle and butterfly bushes. These flowers always attracted a lot of hummingbirds and butterflies that she also loved to watch. She was also a maker of quilts, something she dearly loved doing. When putting the pieces together, everything had to be just so-the right fabric and colors all forming a beautiful quilt. Anna enjoyed walking around the neighborhood, something she did faithfully until her health started failing. She never knew a stranger. She loved to talk politics and she would let you know pretty quickly which party she favored. Dear Anna-mother, mother-in-law, grannie, great grannie, sister, aunt, cousin, Sunday school teacher, neighbor, friend and church member-we will miss you, but you are now home.

She is survived by one son; William (Bill) Winfrey (Mary) of Sedalia, one daughter; Janie Whitford (Leo) of Fayetteville, NC, one sister; Betty Cooper of Independence, MO, one brother; Frank Chapin of Independence, MO, three grandchildren; Mark Winfrey, Scott Winfrey, Tessa Whitford, one great grandson; Jacob Whitford. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister Jacquie Johnson.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 26, 2014 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Rev. Ted Francis officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the funeral home.
