Bernard Norbert “Bernie” Newton, 76

Bernard Norbert ("Bernie") Newton, 76, of Sedalia, MO formerly of Marshall, MO passed away January 22, 2016, surrounded by his family, to be with his Lord and Savior.  He was born on September 30, 1939 in Elkader, Iowa, the son of Lawrence Newton and Evelyn Myshak, both of whom preceded him in death.

On January 28, 1961 in Dubuque, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Sharon Engler, who survives of the home.

Bernie was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and a faithful follower of the Lord.  He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1956 – 1960.  He worked as an electrical engineer/plant manager for John Deere, Wilsons, Tysons and Nordyne, enabling his family to experience life throughout the Midwest.  After retirement, Bernie couldn’t sit still, and was a transportation engineer, driving a school bus for disabled children.  He loved to camp with his immediate and extended family, read, fish, and lead the rosary at church.  He led by example, teaching his children the strength of family and faith.  Bernie will be dearly missed and thought of with much love.

Along with his wife of 55 years, Sharon, he is survived by five children, Michelle Taylor (Mike) of Newport Beach CA, Mike Newton (Joann) of Denver CO, Amy Murdock (Jim) of Marshall MO, Brenda Orr (Bill) of Kansas City MO, Julie Newton (Jeremy) of Warrensburg MO; four grandchildren, Megan Lawson (Robert), Karli Newton, Dawn Orr, Daniel Orr; one brother Richard Newton (Mary) of Waterloo IA; several nieces and nephews, as well as grandpets and great grandpets.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents; his dear son, Douglas Gene; his sister, Joan Smith; and his two brothers, Ronald Newton and Wallace Newton.

A memorial mass service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday January 29, 2016 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Mark Miller C.PP.S. officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church, one hour prior to the service, with a Rosary being conducted at 12:30 p.m., prior to the visitation.

Honorary bearers will be sons-in-law and grandson-in-law.
