Betty Jane (Thomas) Morton age 86 formerly of Sedalia, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the Benton House Care Facility in Kansas City North.

She was born on March 24, 1929, in Sedalia, daughter of David W. and Lura E. Lane Thomas. On June 1, 1947, in Sedalia, she married Dean Clifford Morton and he survives. Betty graduated from Smith-Cotton High School.

She worked at the Pettis County Juvenile Office as a child care worker. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church in Sedalia where she taught Sunday School and was a member and past president of the W.M.U. Dean and Betty had taken care of over one hundred foster children of which they adopted five.

She enjoyed creative art, gardening and cooking. Betty loved spending time with her family. Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters; Leslie Tucker (Robert) of Dallas, Texas, Jorja Krause (Tim) of Dallas, Texas, two sons; James Robert Morton (Thanh) of Dallas, Texas and Dan Morton (Theresa) of Kansas City, Missouri, twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded by one daughter; Bea Annette Hono, three brothers; Earl Thomas, Franklin Thomas and Darrell Thomas, six sisters; Edythe Hyatt, Mary Phillips, Daisy Wasson, Ina Ream, Audrey Greer and Virginia Dirck.

Friends may call after 11:00 A.M. Saturday with funeral services at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Rev. Marlin Brown and Rev. Robin Sandbothe officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. Friday, August 28, 2015 at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Theo Krause, Tim Krause, Alex Morton, Kenny Thomas and Ed Underwood.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Sedalia. You may leave condolences online at ewingschuttesemlerfh.com
