Best Places in Sedalia to Watch Super Bowl XLVII

Currently the White House is being petitioned to make the day after the Super Bowl a national holiday, because last year an estimated 111 million people watched the Super Bowl.  According to Fox Sports fun facts about the Super Bowl, nine out of 10 of the most watched U.S. TV programs have been Super Bowls and 51.7 million cases of beer are sold.

Here are the top four places in Sedalia to grab a cold one and watch the Baltimore Ravens play the San Francisco 49ers at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3.

The Harlem Globetrotters Make Professional Basketball Watchable in KC [PHOTOS]

I took the kids to see the Harlem Globetrotters at the Sprint Center in Kansas City.  I grew up watching Meadowlark Lemon, Curly Neil and Goose on TV. The spirit of the team lives on with new players and the show was fantastic. The trick plays were timed perfectly and they do amazing things with a basketball. The announcer added excitement to the "championship game" by pointing out how close it was. Of course, the Globetrotters were victorious. Here's a few photos from the event.

Star-Studded Autographed Guitar to be Auctioned to Benefit St. Jude

Family Pawn of Sedalia was once again kind enough to donate a guitar for me to take to Memphis on my trip to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  Lots of country stars were kind enough to sign the guitar for us.  We will auction the guitar to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at the 'Thom Shepherd & Friends' show at Dukes & Boots on Jan. 30.

L. Douglas Wilder to Speak at UCM’s Annual Freedom Scholarship Dinner

Martin Luther King Jr. Day may be on Jan. 21, but several activities are going on at the University of Central Missouri in the next week in observance of this day.  L. Douglas Wilder, former governor of Virginia and the first elected African American governor in the United States, will be the keynote speaker for the University of Central Missouri’s annual Freedom Scholarship dinner,  planned for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The event is the highlight of the university’s 2013 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.

Blaine Whitworth 5K Remembrance Run to be Held in Warrensburg

In remembrance of William Blaine Whitworth, who was killed in a shooting last September in Warrensburg, the Go Big or Go Home fund will host a 5K run on Saturday, April 6 at 8:30 a.m., beginning at 115 N. Holden St. in Warrensburg.
