At one point in my life I was headed in a completely different direction than the one I currently walk. Yes, I did all sorts of things as a kid, but generally there was a common theme to a lot of it. I really liked school, and I loved the libraries. So of course, I had my head in books a lot.
When I was small up until about my junior year of college, I was going to be a teacher. Specifically, I was going to be a high school English teacher. I know, can you imagine? I'd not only be the goofiest teacher ever, but half the time I'd be mistaken for a student. But yes, I was always in love with books, plays, poetry, and all that stuff. I did creative writing, I did theater, I did tons of reading. So when I see things like this upcoming event, I'm always interested.
It is almost summer time, which means hot weather, swimming pools, BBQ, lemonade and community yard sales. The Mathewson Center on the State Fair grounds will host "The World's Largest Garage Sale" on Saturday, May 18.
Here are some of the best items you can find at a garage sale.
A lot of different events are happening around us for the Relay For Life. The Relay is almost a year-round event, really, because these teams work so hard to get fundraising going. They do everything they can think of to get members, donations and awareness out there. The actual Relay event isn't until June, but that doesn't mean teams aren't hard at work.
We here at the station have been accepting donations of bears for their yearly bear auction. My very own sister even went through her precious stuffed bear collection and donated some to the cause. People have decorated, dressed, and gussied up their bears so that you'll bid on them, and all the money will go to the great Relay for Life.
Most of us know at least one person who is graduating next month. With all of the students working hard and studying, its time for you to take a quiz. We want to test your knowledge about local graduations, ceremonies and how it all got started. So before you put on your cap and gown on, here is one last test before graduation.
What can I say? I give up on this weather. What do you do when you get up on the first weekend of turkey season and it's 35 degrees outside? Well, you put on more clothes, grab your swamp boots and maybe a boat to get to that field those thunder chickens have been strutting in. It's going to be fun.
The Mid-Missouri Outlaws are ready to come back home to the Mathewson Exhibition Center this Saturday, April 20. The Outlaws will take on their new and only in-state rival, the Kansas City Renegades. The Renegades come into this game 3-2 with wins over the Oklahoma Defenders, Wichita Wild and Kansas Koyotes in the last three weeks. The Outlaws have yet to win a game, but are looking to build momentum after last week’s loss 36-34 to Oklahoma.
Earth Day is coming up on April 22. Everybody likes the Earth, that's where we keep all our stuff. So every now and then, people like to get together and give a little thanks to the good old Earth with a designated day. So how and where can you celebrate locally, and pitch in a bit? Why, read on, brave individual!
