Skyline Elementary Honors Lynn Phillips at Scholastic Book Fair
November 2, 2012 Skyline Elementary held their first Scholastic Book Fair of the year Thursday night (Nov. 1). This book fair also had special meaning since it was the first one at Skyline Elementary since the passing of Lynn Phillips, a Skyline Librarian and cancer victim who passed away in May.

Former Marine Raises Money to Bring Home Stray Dog He Befriended in Afghanistan
When former Marine Shaun Duling met Bolt, a stray Labrador-shepherd mix, the little fella was skittish and hungry. Duling was doing contract work in Afghanistan with a German military unit, and while the Germans had adopted Bolt's sister as their mascot, the less-outgoing Bolt was mostly ignored.
Vein Drain Blood Drive Held at State Fair Community College
October 30, 2012 The American Red Cross held a blood donation drive in the Thompson Conference Center on the campus of State Fair Community College. The blood drive was scheduled months in advance but became highly important due to Hurricane Sandy.

October 29, 2012 The nominees for the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri’s 2013 Pink Flamingo Award have been revealed. The Pink Flamingo Award, which has been honoring individuals in West Central Missouri for their community giving, philanthropic spirit, kindness, generosity, character and leadership for the past six years, has become a part and tradition of the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri’s annual fundraising auction, 'An Evening of Heart and Hope.'
On The Road With Doug: German Dinner at Immanuel United Church of Christ
October 29, 2012 It's time for another installment of On the Road With Doug, only this time I didn't go very far. Fundraisers happen all the time for local churches. Some really step out of the box or fill a niche that when you mention it, you instantly think of that church. That certainly applies to the Immanuel United Church of Christ, at 418 West 4th Street, who had their 13th Annual German Dinner on Saturday (October 27).
