On The Road With Doug: Wiener Dog Races in Clinton

It's time for another On the Road With Doug. When my wife, Diana, and I first started dating, she made it perfectly clear when I dated her, got engaged to her and married her that there would always be a dachshund in the house. Ever since we've had our home, we have had one, so I'm good there. One year I discovered an event at the Woodlands called the Wiener Dog Races. Unfortunately, the Woodlands closed, but Olde Glory Days in Clinton picked up the event and has been running it for eight years straight. This year's event was sponsored by American Family Insurance. Diana and I ventured to Clinton on Saturday afternoon (June 29) and settled in for the races. We were amazed that the stands were packed on the main side and there appeared to be about 20-30 dogs entered into the event.

Olde Glory Days Coming to Clinton This Week, Lee Greenwood to Perform on June 28

The Olde Glory Days are back in Clinton this week, a week ahead of the 4th of July schedule in order to book Lee Greenwood, the country music artist known for "God Bless the U.S.A."  They’ve got plenty of entertainment June 27-30. This year's theme is "Proud To Be An American." There will be a carnival each day of the event around the square in Clinton.

National Weather Service Issues a Slight Risk For Severe Storms Today

The weather for the first weekend of summer has been great. Today (June 23), that could change. The National Weather Service says much of the Midwest region, including Kansas City, Topeka, Omaha, Des Moines, and portions of St. Louis are now under a slight risk for severe storms today and tonight. The primary hazards will be very large hail, damaging winds and possibly a tornado.
