Before Marvel Studios' official panel later today at Comic-Con 2014, Marvel Animation gave a presentation that confirmed what we already suspected: the studio is prepping an animated 'Guardians of the Galaxy' series for Disney XD, which should help you bide the time between the first film and the planned sequel.

First rumored back in January and confirmed at Comic-Con today, Marvel Animation is developing a 'Guardians of the Galaxy' animated series, although they did not confirm exactly when the series will make its debut on Disney XD. Marvel showed about one minute of footage from the series, featuring Rocket Raccoon and Star-Lord, played in the live-action film by Bradley Cooper and Chris Pratt, respectively. It's presumed that Disney and Marvel will find new actors to voice the characters for the animated version.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' doesn't hit theaters until next week, but a sequel is already in the works at Marvel with James Gunn reportedly returning to write and direct, as revealed at Comic-Con yesterday. Along with Cooper and Pratt, the film also stars Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer, and Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot.

This isn't the first time the 'Guardians' have been animated, though -- the group appeared in a 2013 episode of 'Ultimate Spider-Man,' in which the late Michael Clarke Duncan voiced Groot. An even earlier appearance in 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes' featured a 'Guardians' line-up of Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Quasar, and Adam Warlock. We don't expect to see a line-up change between the upcoming film and the animated series, as Marvel will be looking to keep things more in line with their current movie universe, much as they did with the animated 'Avengers Assemble.'

The official Marvel Studios panel is later today, so check back here for more updates on 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and all your Marvel favorites from Comic-Con 2014.
