Donald Dean Wuebbold, 86, of Cole Camp, MO passed away February 5, 2016 at the home of his sister, Marjorie Cation, in Kansas City, MO. Don had been in poor health for several years and had been on Hospice since last spring.

He was born March 23, 1929 in Kansas City to Oliver Herman Wilhelm and Margaret (Cannady) Wuebbold. He was baptized on April 21, 1929, by Dr. Dierks and confirmed on May 28, 1944, by Pastor George Kuechnmeister at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kansas City.  He lived with his maternal grandparents in southern Missouri during the Depression years and returned to Kansas City on entering high school.  He graduated from Westport High School in 1947.  Don loved animals, and during his high school years, he and some friends helped Fenby Webster get Wayside Waifs up and running.

Don enlisted in the US Air Force in October 1950 and spent 20 years in the service, doing tours of duty in Germany, England, and Japan.  He met and married Pat Hulliburger Greene in Sacramento, CA in 1961.  They lived there and in Colorado Springs, CO until retiring in Cole Camp in September 1971.

While in Cole Camp, he worked briefly with Paul Holtzen in real estate sales and with Dr. Don Heimsoth in his veterinarian business.  Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on its Cemetery Committee for 35 years.  In July 1985 he became administrator of the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Cole Camp for several years after serving for 3 years on its Board of Directors.  He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 305 of Cole Camp.

Don is predeceased by his parents; a younger sister, Marilyn Claire; and in 1994, his wife, Pat.  He is survived by his sister, Marjorie Cation of Kansas City; 2 nieces, Janice Cation Reynolds (David) of Springfield, MO and Mary Cation Williams (Keith) of Kansas City, MO; 2 great-nieces, Megan Reynolds Kilmer (Marcus) of Springfield and Julie Reynolds Dickey (Jason) of Liberty, MO;  good friends Kim Heimsoth, Cristin Fox, Don and Josephine Heimsoth, and Pat Barnes, all of Cole Camp; Dianne Peck of Lincoln, MO; and Bob and Robbi Owens of Pacolet, SC.  Special thanks to all Don’s friends for their caring and sharing in his life.

The family also wishes to thank Linda McCollum, Vonnisha Hughes, and Felicia Malcolm for their care, concern, compassion, emotional support, and friendship during Don’s recent illness.  Words cannot express our appreciation for them.

Don’s family, especially his sister, and his many friends will truly miss him but we are thankful to God for the time he had with us and the many pleasant memories that we will cherish.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cole Camp, with Pastor Jim Dunn of Kansas City and Pastor Jeffrey Kuddes of Cole Camp officiating with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Cole Camp, with military honors by the American Legion Post No. 305 of Cole Camp.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Good Samaritan Care Center in Cole Camp, or Wayside Waifs in Kansas City in care of the Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp.
