Donald Jean Allcorn, M.D., was called home to his Heavenly Father on January 4, 2014, at the age of 79. He was born on June 26, 1934, in Sedalia to Forest Allcorn and Lillian Schmidt Allcorn, accepted Christ as his Savior in April 1943, and was baptized at East Sedalia Baptist Church. He married Joyce Ann Griffith of Smithton on December 31, 1952, in Smithton Baptist Church, where he was pastor and she played the piano.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife.  He is survived by sons Donald Kent Allcorn, M.D. (Brenda) of Cole Camp, Jeffrey David Allcorn (Wendy) of Sedalia, Charles Edgar Allcorn II of Warsaw, and Peter Michael Allcorn of Sedalia; daughters Elizabeth Ann Martin (Frank Martin) of Hallsville, Missouri and Susan Allcorn Admire (Robert Admire, M.D.) of Argyle, Texas; sister Linda Romig (Larry) of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; brother-in-law Richard Griffith (Serena) of Sedalia; sisters-in-law DeLaine Upton (George) of Higginsville, Missouri and Carol Gerardy (Kenneth) of Laurie, Missouri; 8 grandsons; 9 granddaughters; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Don graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1952. He did undergraduate work at William Jewell College, Central Missouri State University, and Jefferson City Junior College; he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1960, a Master of Arts degree in 1963, and a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1966 from the University of Missouri. He completed post-graduate training at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan, and then served in the United States Public Health Service on a Navajo reservation in Crownpoint, New Mexico.

In 1970, Dr. Allcorn entered private medical practice in Flint, Michigan. Upon the sudden death of his father, he returned to Missouri, serving on faculty at the University of Missouri School of Medicine, and later entered private medical practice in Sedalia. After retiring from private practice, Dr. Allcorn worked in the Emergency Department of Bothwell Regional Health Center and for the State of Missouri.

Dr. Allcorn was called to the Gospel ministry in 1950, was licensed to preach at East Sedalia Baptist Church in 1951, and was ordained to the Gospel Ministry by the Smithton Baptist Church in 1953. Dr. Allcorn served as a pastor for over 55 years to churches including Smithton Baptist Church, Smithton; Friendship Baptist Church, California, Missouri; Bethlehem Baptist Church, Centralia, Missouri; Unity Baptist, Fulton, Missouri; Ainsworth Chapel, Flint, Michigan; Crownpoint Baptist, Crownpoint, New Mexico; North End Baptist Church, Mount Morris, Michigan; Lakeside Chapel, Warsaw; and Broadway Baptist Church, Sedalia. His deep commitment to Christ led him to complete short-term mission trips, volunteer as chaplain at Bothwell Regional Health Center, and serve numerous organizations in the community, including Benton County Health Department Hospice, Bothwell Regional Health Center Hospice, Applewood Christian School, Children’s Therapy Center of Sedalia, Community Nursing Home of Lincoln, Buena Vista Nursing Home of Sedalia, Warm House of Warsaw, and Mothers Against Methamphetamine. Dr. Allcorn founded Katy Trail Community Health of Warsaw and the Community Free Clinic of Sedalia and Knob Noster, serving as their Medical Director.

Don will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather; a skilled physician and carpenter; a dedicated pastor; and a generous citizen who gave freely of his time to the community of Sedalia and Warsaw. His family would like to thank Dr. Bill Woolery; Dr. Steve Foster; Dr. Bessem Chaar; and the staffs of Bothwell Regional Health Center, Winchester Meadows Assisted Living, and the Sylvia G. Thompson Residential Center for their care of Dr. Allcorn during his illness.

Services are under the direction of the McLaughlin Funeral Chapel. Friends may call after 2 pm, Thursday, January 9th at First Baptist Church, Sedalia, where the family will receive visitors from 5 pm – 7 pm. A funeral service in celebration of Dr. Allcorn’s life will be held at First Baptist Church of Sedalia on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 10 a.m. with Dr. Drew Hill and Rev. J. Marlin Brown officiating. Pallbearers will include Major Andrew Martin, Joshua Allcorn, Caleb Allcorn, John Admire, M.D., Charles Admire, William Scott Admire, Christopher Admire, and Zachary Allcorn. Honorary Pallbearers include Sara Scalzitti, Katie Lotz, Alyssa Crabb, Ashton Wedemeyer, Ashley Miller, Amber Day, Arin Martin, Hannah Zaragoza, and Kristen Allcorn. A graveside service will follow the funeral at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sedalia.
