Former Camden County SRO Arrested For Possession & Promoting Child Porn

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control has arrested Darrin Marshall Skinner, 49, of Camdenton.

Skinner was arrested on Dec. 18 following an investigation by the Digital Forensics Investigative Unit of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control.

Skinner was a school resource officer at Macks Creek Elementary School.

The Camden County Sheriff’s Office and investigators with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office assisted with the investigation.

In June of 2023, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation after receiving a Cyber Tipline Report from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, indicating a Camden County resident had uploaded child pornography, using a cellular telephone application.

Camden County investigators continued the investigation until it led to identifying the suspect as Darrin Marshall Skinner, 49, of Camdenton, Missouri, who was a Deputy employed with their office.

On Aug. 1, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control with the investigation, due to the potential conflict of interest.

In August of 2023, investigators with the Division of Drug and Crime Control executed a search warrant at Skinner’s Camden County residence and seized electronic devices belonging to him. Investigators examined the digital devices but were unable to locate child pornography at that time. Two search warrants were served to the cellular phone application provider. After execution of the search warrants, investigators located child pornography, which was uploaded by Skinner, as well as evidence to support that he distributed the files.

On Dec. 18 at noon, Skinner was arrested and formally charged by the Camden County Prosecuting Attorney with two counts of possession of child pornography, six counts of first-degree promoting child pornography and six counts of second-degree promoting child pornography. Skinner is currently being held in the Camden County Jail, with no bond.

Camden County Sheriff Tony Helms issued a statement on facebook back in August about his former deputy:

-- The above charges are a mere accusation and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of these charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
