Glenda J. Hawkins, 76, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in Columbia, Missouri. She was born March 3,1937, the daughter of Glen and Lois (Johnson) Rhoads. Glenda and William B. Hawkins were united in marriage on March 4, 1967 in Edina, Missouri.

Glenda graduated from Smith-Cotton High School before attending and graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia with her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Home Economics. She also graduated with her Master's of Arts Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville.

Glenda worked for University of Missouri Extension in Knox County and Northeast Missouri from 1963-1989. Her responsibilities included Home Economics with Youth Responsibilities (1963-1967), County Home Economist (1967-1972) Family Economics and Management Specialist (1972-1989). She then transferred to Benton County and the Central Missouri Region where she continued as a Family Economics and Management Specialist (1989-1991) and a Consumer and Family Economics Specialist and County Program Director (1991-1997). Glenda retired in 1997 after 33 years with the University Extension.

Glenda received numerous awards during her Extension career including International 4-H Youth Exchange Program trip to Sweden, Distinguished Service Award, Meritorious Award, and 3 Vice-Presidents Awards from the University of Missouri.

Glenda was active locally with the Missouri State Fair as the Home Economics Building Superintendent for 3 years and teaching quilting classes for many years at State Fair Community College. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, painting and her flower garden.

Glenda is survived by her husband Bill Hawkins, of the home; her sister Connie Rattinger, of Sedalia; 5 nieces, Dawn (Vitor Henriques) Jefferis-Henriques, Diane Rattinger, Belinda (J.L.) Brenzier, Sharon Baker and Holly Hawkins; 3 nephews, David Jefferis, Tom Hawkins and Ron (Joy) Hawkins; 13 great nieces and nephews and many friends who will miss her dearly.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Anita Jefferis and her brother, Arvid E. Rhoads.

Funeral services will begin at 10:00AM, Friday, October 25, 2013 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Downing, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Glenda's family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00PM, Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pettis County 4-H Foundation in lieu of flowers.
