Homer “Mutt” Embree, 88, of Sedalia, died on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Bothwell Regional Health Center. He was born May 1, 1924, the son of Perry and Beulah (Bullard) Embree. Mutt and Helen Sue Bobbitt were married on March 22, 1947 and celebrated 65 wonderful years together.

Mutt was drafted into the U.S. Army in January, 1943. He served in the South Pacific Campaign in the New Hebrides Islands, New Guinea and Guadalcanal. He was a Gunnery Sergeant in the Mule Pack Field Artillery of the 4th Field Battalion C. He was honorably discharged in January, 1946.

Mutt returned to Sedalia and worked for Town and Country Shoes from 1946 to 1960. He then worked for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Sedalia from 1960 to 1987, retiring as a Route Supervisor. After retirement, Mutt logged 1000s of miles shuttling cars for Town and Country Motors. Mutt also bowled for 35 years, played golf and played and managed slow pitch softball for 12 years.

Mutt came from a tight-knit family. He and Sue continued that tradition and set an example that is still practiced today among their own children and grandchildren. They all celebrate family events with their extended families numerous times every year, without regard to geographic barriers.
