Joe Mack Cornett, 81, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013. He was born December 2, 1931, the son of Myrus and Oma (Peek) Cornett. Joe and Julia Wilkerson were united in marriage in California on December 4, 1954. Julia preceded Joe in death on November 27, 2010.

Joe enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 18, 1950 and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He was very proud of his military service. He then served in the United States Navy Reserve and also worked for Amaco, starting in Sugar Creek. He and Julia moved throughout the United States before he retired again in Whiting, Indiana. Joe and Julia moved to Sedalia in 1999 to be closer to Julia's family.

Joe was a loving and caring man. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Joe's family included the many friends he and Julia made while members of Parkview Christian Church. Joe's interests included gardening and fishing. He was well known for his garden, especially his blackberries.

Joe is survived by his son, Don Cornett and his wife, Kimberlee, of Enosburg, VT; his daughter, Claudia Thies, of Seattle, WA; 2 grandchildren, James Cornett and Amanda See; 2 great grandchildren, Emma Cornett and Adison See; and his brother, Huey Cornett, of Panama City, FL.

In addition to his wife, Julia, Joe was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 1:00PM, Friday, July 12, 2013 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Rev. Rodney Brown officiating. Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.

Joe's family will receive friends from 12:00PM until service time at the funeral home.
