Representatives for the John H. Bothwell Trust recently presented a check for $38,030.50 to Bothwell Regional Health Center.

John Homer Bothwell lived from 1848 to 1929 and established the charitable trust in 1926 with an initial investment of $150,000, which is about $2.6 million in today’s dollars.

Bothwell created the trust to establish a cooperative venture with the city and/or county to start a hospital in Sedalia. John H. Bothwell Memorial Hospital, now known as Bothwell Regional Health Center, opened in 1930.

The trust has retained trustees throughout its 97-year history and through investment practices it earns revenue that continues to support health care in the region. Each year, trustees pay out the annual interest income to Bothwell Regional Health Center. To date, several million dollars has been given to the health center.
