Kansas City Police Shoot Suspect, Shots Then Fired at Police
A Kansas City man who was shot by police has been charged with raising a handgun toward an officer before he was wounded.
Eighteen-year-old Jamil Jackson was charged Sunday with assault on a law enforcement officer and armed criminal action. It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.
Jackson was shot in the abdomen early Sunday while officers were investigating a disturbance. Spokeswoman Sgt. Kari Thompson says that as police administered first aid, a second person approached officers in an aggressive manner and refused to move, prompting officers to use a stun gun on that person.
Someone in the crowd fired several shots toward the officers, who moved the critically wounded man and themselves to safety.
Police say another man was wounded at a nearby club before the disturbance.
