The following cases were taken up during the September 15 Law Day docket:

Les Hott 59 of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to six drug related charges stemming from two separate investigations earlier this year.  On January 9, 2014, Sedalia Police Officer Michael Elwood found methamphetamine and marijuana in the defendant’s possession during a traffic stop.  On February 11, the Sedalia Police Department’s STING Unit found methamphetamine, marijuana, clonazepam and hydromorphone when serving a search warrant at the defendant’s home on South Ingram.  In a subsequent interview with Officers Kevin Klein and Michael Elwood, the defendant admitted he sometimes sold meth and traded meth and marijuana for pills.  Because the defendant has at least two prior felony convictions related to controlled substances, he was sentenced as a persistent drug offender to 10 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

29-year-old John R.Hughes of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine and felon in possession of a firearm, charges arising from the execution of a search warrant by Sedalia and Pettis County officers May 28 at the defendant’s home on Elsie Drive.  He was sentenced to serve 7 years in prison.

Victor Lawary 22 of St. Louis, pleaded guilty to domestic assault and property damage, admitting that on April 29 he struck his girlfriend and then broke her computer.  An investigation by Sedalia Police Sgt. Chet Mackiewicz corroborated the injuries and damages.  After the defendant paid $800 in restitution, he was sentenced to serve 135 days in jail.

Victor Madrid 35 ofSedalia was placed on probation for 5 years after pleading guilty to possession of methamphetamine.  Sedalia Police Det. Michael Elwood stopped the defendant for driving a vehicle with expired plates August 27, 2013 and found methamphetamine in his pocket.  While on probation, the defendant will be required to serve 30 days in jail as shock detention.

Heather Miller 36 of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and was placed on probation for 5 years.  The Sedalia Police Department’s STING Unit arrested the defendant after finding Lunesta in her possession during the execution of a search warrant on Kentucky Avenue July 10.  Conditions of defendant’s probation include serving 30 days of shock detention, consenting to a search if requested by a law enforcement officer, and having no contact with others in the home at the time the search warrant was served.

Jose Antonio Ortiz age 28 of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to stealing and unlawful use of weapon and was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail.  On June 30, 2013, the defendant threatened a person with a pocketknife during an argument.  On December 7, he stole a vehicle owned by an acquaintance.

34-year-old Robin Phillips of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to forgery and was placed on probation for 5 years.  During an investigation conducted by Pettis County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tolbert Rowe and Dep. David Hockaday, the defendant admitted that in September of last year, she forged checks on her employer’s account to pay personal bills.  While on probation, the defendant will be required to serve 30 days of shock detention and pay $2,111 in restitution.

Christopher Purl age 33 of Sedalia, was sentenced to serve 6 years in prison after pleading guilty in August to possession of child pornography.  Members of the Sedalia Police Department and the Western Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force served a search warrant at the defendant’s home on Missouri Avenue March 20, 2013 and found child pornography.  The court ordered the defendant into the Department of Corrections’ Sex Offender Assessment Unit to determine whether the defendant should complete the Sex Offender Treatment Program on probation or while in prison.

Rogelio Salas, 38-years old of Sedalia, also known as Alfonso Camacho, pleaded guilty to driving while revoked and was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail.  Missouri Highway Patrol Trooper Stephanie Eaton arrested the December 22 after a speeding stop on Highway 50.  The offense was a felony because the defendant has three prior convictions for driving while revoked.

28-year-old Angela Sanders of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to stealing and possession of a controlled substance.  The defendant admitted to Sedalia Police Det. Daniel Benner that she took fentanyl patches from two residents of a nursing home where she worked in September of last year.  The State recommended a 3 year sentence and the case was continued to October 6 for sentencing.

Richard,Shepherd, Jr. 37 of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to driving while revoked, a felony because the defendant has three prior convictions for similar offenses.  He was arrested November 11 near Boonville and Emmett for a vehicle registration violation.  The case was continued to October 6 for sentencing.

Jermaine Williams age 26 of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery in the second degree, assault in the third degree, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.  On April 20, the defendant got behind the wheel of a vehicle idling in the parking lot of a Sedalia convenience store, tried to put the vehicle in gear, and then fought with a passenger who tried to stop him.  When Sedalia Police Officer Todd Nappe arrived moments later, the defendant ran from the officer and then struggled with him.  The defendant had a baggie of marijuana in his pocket.  He was sentenced to serve 5 years in prison.
