Lawyer: Brooklyn Nets Coach Kidd to Plead Guilty to Drunk Driving Charge

Attorney Edward Burke Jr. spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday, ahead of Kidd's court appearance on Long Island.

Kidd was arrested on July 15, 2012. Southampton Town police say he smashed his Cadillac SUV into a telephone pole in the hamlet of Water Mill. Police say he smelled of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy.

Burke says Kidd is expected to receive a suspended sentence. He also will speak to Long Island high school students about the dangers of drunken driving.

Prosecutors did not immediately comment.

Kidd retired as an NBA player after last season and was hired to coach the Nets.
