At 1:30pm Friday afternoon, March 4, 2016, Sedalia-Pettis County Economic Development hosted an open house for “Black Dawn” located at 1511 North Ohio. Black Dawn Manufacturing & Coating is a firearms accessories manufacturer, that produces a wide range of guns and accessories using all American parts.

The company started in the owner, Tim Padgett’s garage in 2008 according to information given to Townsquare Media at the open house. The move to the new $1.5 Million facility in a larger building, has allowed the company to create 15 new jobs, with the prospect for 4-more. The Company also has developed a new indoor shooting range, and has partnered with “The Learning Force” at State Fair Community College to offer safety classes.

Black Dawn Co-Owner, Steve Abbott said in a press release, “There’s no better place than Missouri to build our business.” He went on to say “We needed a skilled workforce and a low tax environment, we found them both right here in Sedalia.” The show room of the company offers a wide variety of accessory, guns, and clothing.

Of special interest to this reporter was a shirt Mayor Stephen Galliher and I saw with “Conceal Carry Pockets built in”. The expansion of Black Dawn, and other companies in the Sedalia Pettis County area is a testament to the Sedalia Pettis County Economic Development efforts for not only bringing new businesses to the area but to keep and improve those already here
