Mabel Buell, 87

Mabel Buell, 87, of Windsor, Missouri, died July 28, 2014, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton.

She was born May 20, 1927, in Ionia, Mo., the daughter of Charles Edward Smith and Mora Clad (Leeders) Smith. On December 24, 1946, in Windsor, she married Forrest Buell and he survives of the home.

Mrs. Buell, after graduating from high school, attended college for a year and taught in a one room school house near Cole Camp, Mo. for 2 years. After teaching, she worked at the Windsor International Shoe Factory for several years before she and her husband began managing the local Western Auto Store, in Windsor, retiring in 1995, after 40 years of service to the community. Mabel was a longtime, faithful member of the Windsor United Methodist Church, working as a member of the Courtesy Committee, helping to make and serve many dinners at the church.  For many years, Mabel was in charge of the Chamber of Commerce monthly dinners. She was also a member of the Windsor Chapter of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed having a garden and canning vegetables from their garden.  Mabel was well known as a wonderful cook, specializing in making homemade pies and rolls.

In addition to her husband, Mabel is survived by a daughter, Donna Sample and her husband John, Arlington, Texas; 2 grandchildren, Brett Sample and his wife Kendra, Frisco, Texas;  Whitney Sample, Arlington, Texas; 3 great-grandchildren, Jett Sample; Mason Wendler; Maya Sample; a brother, John Bay Smith, Phoenix, Arizona and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Charles Smith, Henry Paul Smith; and a sister, Dorothy Dickey.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 31, 2014, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, Mo., with Rev. Peggy Eshelman officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
