Head Football Coach Mark Johnson from Sedalia's Smith-Cotton High School announced on Thursday night (Nov. 8) that he will retire from coaching after 33 years.

Prior to arriving in Sedalia, Smith-Cotton had three winning seasons between the years of 1959-1998. Coach Johnson led the Tigers to eight winning seasons in 15 years, four conference championships, two district titles, a quarterfinal appearance and two state qualifying appearances.

Coach Johnson finishes his Smith-Cotton coaching career with a 85-70 record which is the second most wins and second best winning percentage in the school's history, exceeded only by Stub Dow, who had 86 wins in 17 years at Smith-Cotton.

Coach Johnson has an overall head coaching record of 155-111. He formerly was the head coach in Malvern, Iowa and Monett, Missouri. He also was an assistant at NWMSU.

Coach Johnson gave Smith-Cotton 15 great years. We thank Coach Johnson for letting us be involved with broadcasting Smith-Cotton Tiger football. We wish him and Smith-Cotton the best of luck in the future.
