Mary “Virginia” Johnson Gibson passed away on March 16, 2014 at her home in LaFeria, Texas. She was born May 11, 1930 in Sedalia, the daughter of J. Floyd and Edna E. Jeffries Johnson.

She graduated from Smith Cotton High School in 1948.

She was married to Tyree H. “T.H.” Gibson in Sedalia, in December of 1948. They were married 62 years before he preceded her in death. T.H. and Virginia co-owned Gibson Implement Company and farmed. They moved to LaFeria, Texas full time in 1992.

Virginia loved to travel and made it a point to visit all 50 states and several foreign countries. She said she could live on a cruise ship. She mostly loved Mexico. She loved to go to Progresso, Mexico just 14 miles from her house. She loved to shop and listen to the music. She had been going there for over 30 years and the people of Progresso welcomed and loved her. Many of the performers would play her favorite song “Yellow Bird”.

Virginia was survived by her daughters, Deborah Keele, Warsaw, MO; Pamela Crawford, Warsaw, MO; and Gina (Tim) Doogs, Sedalia. 4 grandchildren, Donald (Lisa) Keele, II, Warsaw, MO; Charles (Becky) Crawford, Smithville, MO; Tyrena Scott, Sedalia, and Robert (Andrea) Odom, Knoxville, IA, 7 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Franklin Johnson, Sedalia, and Gary (Opal) Johnson, Sedalia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, T.H. Gibson, 2 son-in-laws, Donald Keele and Mike Crawford, one brother, Floyd Johnson, Jr. and a sister –in-law, Sue Johnson.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Glen Glidewell and Dorothy Salsman officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Heckart Funeral Home.

Burial will be later in Memorial Park Cemetery.
