WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, a senior member of the Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement after the Air Force announced that it will add 56 personnel at Whiteman Air Force Base this fall as it increases manpower levels within the nuclear force:

“This announcement is great news for both Whiteman and the surrounding community—bringing more than 50 additional personnel to the area. As the home of B-2 stealth bomber, Whiteman plays a critical role in safeguarding our nation, and I’m glad the Air Force is making this important investment in the base.”

The Air Force 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman will gain 56 new positions, primarily filling jobs in the maintenance career field. McCaskill recently met with Brigadier General Glen Vanherck, Commander of the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman, to discuss the current and future needs of the base and the personnel serving there.
