The Missouri State Highway Patrol rescued a missing fisherman from Truman Lake early Saturday morning.

Around 8:00 Friday night (Feb 24), Donna Stearns, from Harrisonville, MO, contacted the Missouri State Highway Patrol, to ask officers for assistance in locating her missing 49-year-old husband, Kenneth Stearns. Mrs. Stearns stated she and her husband were camping and Mr. Stearns was reportedly fishing on Truman Lake, near Sparrowfoot Campground. He had not returned since 1:00 that afternoon.

State Patrol Troopers searched the area by helicopter and on foot. Around 4:00 Saturday morning (Feb 25), the Patrol helicopter located Mr. Stearns on the lake near a partially submerged sand bar between the Sparrowfoot and Deepwater access, in a remote area.

The Patrol pilot directed officers to Stearns' location, where they rescued him and transported him to the Sparrowfoot boat ramp, where emergency personnel were waiting.

Stearns was taken to Golden Valley Hospital, before being transferred to Kansas University Medical Center. According to the press release, Stearns suffered serious health effects from being exposed to the elements.
