Leland H. Schnakenberg, 78, of Cole Camp, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Good Samaritan Care Center, Cole Camp.  He was born on August 30, 1934, on the Schnakenberg family farm north of Cole Camp, a son of Edwin Herman and Leona (Schumacher) Schnakenberg.   On September 16, 1934, he was baptized at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at Lake Creek by Pastor Walter Schroeder.  He was confirmed on April 10, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cole Camp, where he remained a faithful member.   Leland graduated from Cole Camp High School in 1953.  On June 7, 1957, he graduated from Weaver Airline Personnel School in Kansas City.  He began his career as a ramp person at the Kansas City Airport.  He then moved to Chicago, IL, and worked for Capital Airlines at Midway Airport.  Capital Airlines was purchased by United Airlines.  For the next 38 years, he continued to work for United Airlines at O'Hare Airport in Chicago.  He retired as an air traffic controller for United Airlines.  After he retired, he moved back to Cole Camp.   He was always a farm boy at heart and would plan his vacations to help his father and brothers with spring planting and fall harvesting.   He is survived by: his sister, Louetta Kullmann and her husband Kent of Lincoln; one sister-in-law, Rebecca Schnakenberg of Sedalia; and eight nieces and nephews, Jim Schnakenberg, Dennis Schnakenberg, Ronn Schnakenberg, Jean Jett, Karl Schnakenberg, LeaAnn Schnakenberg, Bradley Kullmann, and Sonya Cox.   He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Leona Schnakenberg, and two brothers, Edgar Schnakenberg and Melvin Schnakenberg.   Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cole Camp, with  Pastor Todd Kollbaum officiating.  Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Cole Camp.   A prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cole Camp, with Pastor Michael Boothby officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service.   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to Trinity Lutheran Church Maintenance Fund, Lutheran School Association, or Cole Camp Senior Center in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.   Pallbearers will be Jim Schnakenberg, Dennis Schnakenberg, Bradley Kullmann, Karl Schnakenberg, Ronn Schnakenberg, and Alex Jett.  Honorary pallbearers will be Kent Kullmann and Jack Lumpe.
