SEDALIA, Mo. (AP) - A central Missouri sheriff says a 27-year-old Fulton man has admitted killing a 6-year-old boy he was babysitting.

Scottie Alan Willet was charged Thursday (Aug. 28) with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the boy's death at a home near Fulton.

Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane says Willet had been living at the home for several months with the boy and his mother. The sheriff says the mother left for work around 4 p.m. Wednesday and found her son shot several times and hidden in Willet's bedroom when she got home at 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police say Willet fled in the mother's car and was found at a Sedalia trailer park, where he was taken into custody around 6:30 a.m. on an active warrant out of Pettis County, for failure to appear, before being held in custody at the request of the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

He was being held on $1 million cash bond.
