Sedalia Police Reports for August 16, 2023

Monday evening, Officers went to a residence in the 1800 block of South Sneed Avenue to check for an individual on the premises who was known to have a warrant for their arrest. Information was received from the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office that a wanted subject was at this residence. Officers located the wanted subject, and executed the Cooper County warrant. Michael L. James, 35, of Sedalia, was arrested for his Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Harassment in the 2nd Degree. James was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where bond was set at $2,000 cash or surety.

Sedalia Police took a theft report in the 200 block of South Quincy Avenue Tuesday morning. Upon arrival, contact was made with the victim, Ronnie Gresham. Gresham reported his Craftsman riding lawn mower had been stolen. There was no value given to the stolen lawn mower in the report.

Officers met with Payton Helms at the Police Station Monday afternoon to take a theft report. Helms reported that money was stolen from her in the 1800 block of South Beacon Avenue. The money had been stolen on the night of August 9th. How much money was stolen was not listed in the report.

Officers responded to the 600 block of East 11th Street Tuesday morning to investigate a disturbance in progress. While enroute to the disturbance, Officers got a report of a subject at the hospital with a stab wound. Officers arrived on scene and spoke to witnesses of the disturbance, but the victim and suspect had already left. Evidence of an assault was present, and collected by Officers on scene. The intoxicated suspect was placed under arrest and was treated at the BRHC for his injuries. Jerry Junior Cook, 39, of Sedalia, was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked in on charges of Assault in the 1st Degree (Causing Serious Physical Injury), Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Early Tuesday morning, Officers responded to the Bothwell Regional Health Center to take information concerning a hit and run crash. After an investigation, it was determined an intoxicated driver was involved in a stabbing, crashed into a parked car, and drove to a family member’s house nearby. Then, the intoxicated and revoked license holder family member drove him to the hospital. The family member was placed under arrest. Billy B. Brown, 36, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (Persistent Offender) and Driving While Revoked. Brown was booked and released at the Pettis County Jail.

Tuesday night, Officers responded to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, for a report of theft. The complainant stated an un-identified female stole several items from the business. The items were valued at $38.50. Some suspect information was obtained.
