Sedalia Police Reports for November 13, 2023

Last Thursday evening, Officers were dispatched to the Miney Mo’s Laundry Mat, 1400 South Limit Avenue, in reference to a disturbance. When Officers arrived, they made contact with a subject who was uncooperative. The suspect was detained, and while being restrained, he dropped a knife. While speaking to the victims, it was reported the suspect had threatened to assault their family with a knife and then displayed a fixed blade knife, while threatening them again. Nathan Gonzalez, 35, Homeless, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Gonzalez was booked in on charges of felony Assault in the 2nd Degree, Harassment in the 1st Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Armed Criminal Action. Gonzalez was placed on a 24-hour hold.

Sedalia Police received a call for a well being check Thursday night in the 400 block of East Jackson Street. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with a subject who advised they had been in a domestic situation in the area of North Engineer Avenue and East Saline Street. Officers spoke with the subject, and gathered information necessary to generate a report and file for charges. The specific charges were not mentioned in the report.

Wednesday evening, Officers responded to the 100 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a reported domestic assault. Officers spoke with the reporting party, Mason C. Davis, who stated he was assaulted by the mother of his child. Charges have been submitted to the State Prosecutor’s Office.

Officers took a report Sunday evening in regard to a trespass violation at the Dollar Tree, 3107 West Broadway Boulevard. The suspect was identified, and formal charges will be sought.

Late Friday night, a vehicle was stopped at West 16th Street and South Ohio Avenue for expired plates, and also because the driver was suspected to have a suspended license from an incident of refusing a breathalyzer in August 2023*. The driver was identified, confirmed to be the subject in question, and was also found to be intoxicated. Jamie Jean Robinson, 43, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest on charges of Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Suspended, and Expired Registration. The vehicle was towed, and Robinson was booked in pending release to a sober driver.

Early Sunday morning, Sedalia Police stopped a vehicle at West 5th Street and South Moniteau Avenue for an equipment violation. During the stop, the intoxicated passenger was arrested on an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear out of Pettis County with an original charge of Trespassing in the 1st Degree. Jeremiah Christopher Hubbard Cesar, 41, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, pending a $60 cash only bond.

Officers responded to the Liberty Park Stadium, 1500 West 3rd Street, for a report of burglary Sunday night. Security reported that the building had been broken into. There was approximately $1,000 in damage to the locks, doors, and the fencing of the facility. A small amount of food and drink items were stolen.

Sunday night, an Officer responded to the 700 block of West 3rd Street for a report of illegal dumping. The caller reported that someone known to her dumped numerous items of automotive and construction scrap metal at her house. The suspect was later located. Richard Lee Kohrs, 39, of Sedalia, was arrested and released on a summons for Illegal Dumping.

On the afternoon of November 7th, Officers were dispatched for a burglary report in the 600 block of West 4th Street. Information was gathered from the victim, and a report was completed.

Sedalia Police responded to the Police Department lobby on Friday morning for a report of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle by the complainant’s boyfriend. Information was taken from the reporting party, and a report was completed.

Officers were dispatched to the Police Department lobby for a report of persons shooting air rifles in the city limits on Friday afternoon. Information was gathered from the reporting parties, who stated the air rifle shootings were taking place in the 1500 block of West 20th Street. A report was completed.

Saturday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, for a report of theft of cash from a wallet. Information was gathered from the victim, and from the store, and a report was completed.

Officers initiated a traffic stop in the area of East 5th Street and South Lamine Avenue for a vehicle that was failing to stop at the stop line in the area of East 6th Street and South Ohio Avenue. A DOR check revealed the driver had a Pettis County warrant for his arrest for not handling two speeding tickets before the review date. Jaden Kapuniai Cornelio, 22, of Sedalia, was arrested for his Failure to Appear warrant for Speeding (26 MPH or More Over the Speed Limit). Cornelio was transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a $250 cash only bond.

Sunday morning, Officers observed a black Chevrolet SUV sitting southbound on South Moniteau at West Broadway Boulevard. It pulled out westbound on West Broadway from southbound Moniteau Avenue, conducting an improper turn into the inside line. Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at South Carr Avenue and West Broadway Boulevard. The driver was contacted, and identified. Fabian Gonzalez Estrada, 30, of Windsor, was arrested on a charge of felony Driving Without a License. Estrada was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be fingerprinted, booked, and released.

Saturday night, a car was stopped in the area of South Limit Avenue and West 14th Street for improper lane usage and failing to stop at a stop line. It was determined the driver was both intoxicated, and had a revoked driving privilege. Leslie Renee Houston, 39, of Las Vegas Nevada, was arrested on a charge of felony Driving While Intoxicated (Aggravated)** and Driving While Revoked. Houston was taken to the Pettis County Jail, to be placed on a 24-hour hold.

In the early morning hours Sunday, Officers initiated a traffic stop on a truck in at the Break Time store, 808 East Broadway Boulevard, because it had a passenger side headlight out. It also made an improper turn from southbound Engineer onto westbound Broadway Boulevard. A passenger in the vehicle provided a false name, but was ultimately identified, and found to have multiple warrants for their arrest. Nolan Ryan Smith, 44, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of Identity Theft, a Benton County Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of felony Driving While Revoked***, and a misdemeanor Pettis County warrant for Failure to appear on a different charge of Driving While Revoked. Smith was transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a cash or surety bond of $10,000 on the Benton County warrant, and a $250 cash only bond on the Pettis County warrant. Smith was placed on a 24-hour hold.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Vermont Avenue Friday evening in reference to a suicidal subject. The subject was contacted and did not appear to be in crisis. Through an investigation, it was determined the subject unlawfully possessed a firearm**** in the presence of a child, while making personal threats. Cody Austin Harvey, 30, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Harvey was placed on 24-hour hold pending charges of Armed Criminal Action, Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 1st Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Concealable Weapon, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a defective brake light in the area of North Grand Avenue and West Pettis Street Saturday morning. After identifying the occupants of the vehicle, one occupant came back with two active warrants for their arrest. Ricky Burdette Longie II, 48, was arrested for one Failure to Appear warrant out of Pettis County for a charge of Driving While Revoked, and a second Camden County Probation Violation warrant on original charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance. His probation was revoked in September of 2021, and the warrant carried no bond. Longie was placed under arrest for his warrants and transported to the Pettis County Jail for processing.

Friday night, Officers responded to the 3300 block of Anderson Avenue for a report of a disturbance. Heather Monks reported a subject known to her had broken a window of the residence. The incident is believed to be civil, and no criminal charges are being sought.

Sedalia Police responded to a residence in the 1200 block of South Carr Avenue for a delayed report of domestic violence Friday night. The caller reported an altercation between spouses that did not result in injury and had occurred hours prior. A 12-hour log was started to complete the incident.

Friday evening, Officers responded to the Check N Go, 3040 West Broadway Boulevard, for a report of suspicious activity. The caller reported a suspicious subject had been lingering around the business several times in recent days. Information was collected for a report.

Early Saturday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of South Grand Avenue and West 6th Street. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for Driving While Revoked. Josephine C. Marek, 20, of Sedalia, was transported to the Sedalia Police Department for processing, and then released with a Municipal Summons.

Officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of East 15th Street in reference to a theft from a vehicle Friday afternoon. Officers made contact with the reporting party, and it was determined the theft occurred sometime in the last two weeks. Officers gathered the information, and a report was submitted.

Thursday evening, Officers received a traffic complaint about a possibly impaired driver. Officers located the suspect vehicle, and observed it travelling well below the posted speed limit. The caller had also reported the vehicle was failing to maintain the right half of the roadway. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and during the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Michael Bernard, 65, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Bernard was transported to the Sedalia Police Department, where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC was above 0.08. Bernard was fingerprinted, booked, and then issued a Uniform Traffic Ticket for DWI.

In the early morning hours of November 5th, Officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle southbound on South Limit Avenue. Upon activating emergency lights and sirens, the driver began to flee from law enforcement. Officers continued until terminated. Pettis County Deputies took over the pursuit. The suspect was pulled over near Knob Noster. It was discovered the car was stolen and the driver had multiple felony warrants as well as drug paraphernalia on his person. Last Wednesday night, Officers responded to the area of West Broadway Boulevard and Winchester Drive in reference to a hit and run accident. About two hours later, Officers were dispatched to the area of East 10th Street and South Ingram Avenue to investigate another hit and run accident. Officers were also called to the Dollar General, 4215 East Broadway in reference to a hit and run accident, that occurred that same evening. Officers gathered information to generate a report and begin an investigation on each incident.

Thursday morning, Officers spoke with Jamie Kaesik over the phone. Kaesik wished to report a case of Identity Theft. A credit card was opened in her name without her knowledge or permission.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Missouri State Fairgrounds, 2503 West 16th Street in regards to a potential drug offense Thursday morning. A needle was taken and disposed of at the Police Department.

On the afternoon of November 8th, Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of South Missouri Avenue in reference to a report of a suicidal subject. The caller said his wife was in the bathtub, and slit her wrists in an attempt to commit suicide. Officers forced entry into the house, and located the subject, who had not yet injured themselves. The subject was transported to the BRHC for treatment.

Footnote 2: In Missouri, aggravated DWI refers to a charge brought against an offender with three or more convictions for intoxication-related traffic offenses. An aggravated DUI also occurs when a person is found to be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs while also committing another offense. This is indicated by specific “aggravating influences” such as driving while intoxicated and transporting a minor, or driving while intoxicated while their license is suspended or revoked, that are present or that occur at the time of the incident, resulting in a much more severe charge.

Footnote 3: Smith was convicted of Driving While Revoked or Suspended several times – first in Lafayette County in 2014, twice in Sedalia Circuit Court in 2016, and twice more in the Pettis County Circuit Court in 2017 and 2021.

Footnote 4: Harvey is currently on probation for five years on a felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Casenet #21PT-CR02142-01. Since he is a felon, under Chapter 571, 571.070, he cannot legally own a firearm.
