Sedalia Police Reports for November 15, 2023

Late Tuesday night, Officers responded to the area of West 14th Street and South Park Avenue for a report of a dog cornering someone walking. Upon arrival, Officers were able to locate the dog. Donald Lee Aldrich, 42, of Sedalia, was issued a citation for Animal Running At Large.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 200 block of East 6th Street in reference to a hit and run accident Tuesday evening. Officers arrived and gathered information from Nancy Lorene Aitken. Officers also canvassed the area for camera footage. An investigation was started, and a report was generated.

Officers responded to the Bomgaar’s store, 2424 South Limit Avenue, in reference to a commercial burglary alarm Tuesday night. Upon arrival, a suspect had forced entry into the business, stolen some items, and fled before Officers’ arrival. At the time of the report, a suspect has not been identified.

Tuesday night, Officers responded to the 400 block of East 7th Street in reference to a shooting. Officers spoke with witnesses on scene, who stated they had heard gunshots outside. Officers processed the scene, and no injuries were reported. The case is still being investigated.

On the morning of October 13th, Officers observed a car moving east on East Broadway that had a license plate showing the vehicle as stolen out of Morgan County. According to the probable cause report, the vehicle signaled to turn into the Woods Express store, 703 East Broadway Boulevard. Officers made contact with the driver, who claimed the car was given to her to borrow by a friend, and did not know it was stolen. Officers inventoried the vehicle prior to it being towed, and found a baggie in the center console with a crystalline residue inside. Officers also found a lockbox under the driver’s seat, that had an empty bottle of Methadone with the driver’s name on the bottle. The lockbox also had the same crystalline residue covering the inside. Officers tested the residue on both items, and the residue field tested positively for Methamphetamine. The driver stated the lockbox was hers, the baggie was not, and she did not know how the residue got there. Officers found multiple personal items throughout the car that belonged to the driver, and nothing that could be identified as belonging to the “friend”. Phylicia Kamay Young, 30, of Stover, was arrested on a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and felony Stealing. According to the Probable Cause report, Young is on parole for a different charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and her criminal history showed twelve prior arrests for stealing and drug related offenses. Young also had an active non-extraditable warrant out of St Roberts for Contempt of Court and Stealing. Young was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold. Later, she was given a cash or surety bond of $25,000.

Officers responded to the 3200 block of Cunningham Drive in reference to a theft Tuesday night. Sharon Sue Spillers stated a family member had stolen various items from them before leaving. A suspect has been identified, but no contact has been made at this time.

Tuesday evening, Officers were dispatched to the area of South Washington Avenue and East 13th Street in reference to a disturbance. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the disturbance was between neighbors, as a result of a dog running loose. Heather Melba Miller, 45, of Sedalia, was issued a citation for Animals Running At Large.

On the afternoon of November 2nd, Officers performed a warrant check in the 1500 block of East 11th Street. Officers made contact with the person, and a check through Dispatch confirmed he had an active warrant from Pettis County for an incident in October. In that incident, which was not released to the press by the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office at the time, the suspect had gone to the redacted residence of a subject with his girlfriend to have the subject look over a vehicle for them. The subject stated he did not have time to check the vehicle, and the suspect entered the subject’s house uninvited. The subject stated he tried to get the suspect to leave, and they began a fistfight. Another witness on scene told Deputies that the suspect had pushed his way into the house uninvited, and the suspect had been told to leave. The suspect left the scene. The suspect, Jerrell Lee Johnson, 33, of Sedalia, was arrested for his warrant from this incident on a charge of felony Burglary in the 1st Degree and felony Assault in the 3rd Degree. Johnson was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked, pending a $50,000 cash or surety bond.

Sedalia Police responded to the 600 block of Wilkerson Street Tuesday evening in reference to a burglary report. Officers spoke with Aurelio Martinez, who stated someone entered his residence and stole cash. No suspects have been identified at this time.

Monday afternoon, Officers responded to the parking lot of the Bothwell Regional Health Center, 601 East 14th Street, in reference to a hit and run accident. Upon arrival, Officers met with the unnamed victim, who was involved in a minor accident in the parking lot. One of the vehicles fled the scene without providing information.

Officers observed a vehicle behind Dugan’s Glass, 2810 West Main Street early Tuesday morning. Officers then made contact with two subjects, who were attempting to dump items on the property. The vehicle they were in belonged to Sedalia Automotive, 2101 South Limit Avenue. The business was contacted, and the truck and its contests were turned back over to the owner. A Dealer Plate belonging to another car dealership was also seized. James David Kohrs, 43, and Joseph Elmer Fore, 41, both of Sedalia, were each issued a citation for Trespassing and released from the scene.

Tuesday afternoon, Officers located a wanted subject during an execution of a search warrant in the 400 block of North Hurley Avenue. He was detained, and his warrants were confirmed. One was issued by the Probation and Parole Office on original charges of felony Non Support of a Minor Child from Cooper County. The other was issued from Pettis County on charges of narcotics distribution and weapons charges*. Derrick Allen Clay, 40, Homeless, was arrested on his warrants and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Bond on the Probation Violation warrant carried no bond, and the Pettis County warrant carried a bond of $75,000 cash or surety.

On the afternoon of October 31st, Officers responded to the 400 block of West 7th Street to investigate a reported burglary and theft. Upon arrival, Officers met with Teresa Capraro. Capraro stated she recently noticed $5,000 worth of various items were missing from her home. It is unknown exactly when the items were taken, or who took the items. Almost two weeks later, Caparo reported an instance of found property. She stated she located a gun in the bushes in front of her house. The gun’s serial number was checked with Dispatch, and it had not been reported as stolen. The gun was collected and placed into found property.**

Officers responded to Stanley Black and Decker, 1500 Waterloo Drive, on Monday afternoon to speak with the security supervisor regarding threats made by an employee. Upon arrival, Officers met with the complainant. He stated it was recently brought to his attention that an IMKO temporary employee that works at their location had made a concerning comment in the presence of other employees. At the request of the complainant, the report is being completed for documentation at this time.

Monday afternoon, Parker Hemme walked into the lobby of the Police Department to report his debit card was used at Woods Express, 703 East Broadway Boulevard, without his knowledge or permission.

Tuesday morning, Officers made contact with a subject about a separate case being investigated. The information of the subject was checked with Dispatch, and it was confirmed he had a warrant for his arrest out of Morgan County. Bobby Joe Ritcheson, 41, Homeless, was arrested for his warrant which carried original charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Prior Offender). Ritcheson was transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a cash or surety bond of $2,000.

Tuesday afternoon, an Officers was dispatched to the 900 block of Winchester Drive in reference to a found property report. A Missouri driver’s license was found near an apartment complex. The ID was entered into evidence for safekeeping.

On the morning of November 4th, an Officer was dispatched to a burglary report in the 1600 block of South Park Avenue. Thomas Knight stated that sometime in the previous evening, someone broke into his house.

An Officer performed a traffic stop on a truck with expired registration on the afternoon of November 2nd. The stop took place in the area of South Limit Avenue and West 18th Street. A check through Dispatch on the passenger showed she had three active Johnson County warrants for her arrest. Sarah Ellaine Shockey, 31, of Sedalia, was arrested on her warrants. A search of her person found methamphetamine. Shockey was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance and her Failure to Appear warrants on original charges of Failure to Register a Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Maintaining Financial Responsibility. Shockey was transported to the Pettis County Jail, pending a total bond of $750 cash only.

Monday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Kentucky Avenue in reference to a property damage report. Ethan Starr stated someone had damaged the fence along the back of his property.

Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of East 16th Street and South Washington Avenue Monday afternoon. Jennifer L. Carter, 44, of Sedalia, was arrested and released on a city summons for Driving While Suspended.

On the afternoon of October 31st, Officers responded to the 1200 block of South Brown Avenue to investigate a reported peace disturbance. Upon arrival, Officers spoke with Rose Fancher. Fancher reported that on the previous afternoon, the suspect (who was not named in the report) had disturbed her peace. Officers are requesting the municipal charge of Public Peace Disturbance against the suspect at this time.

*There is no Pettis County entry currently in Casenet for a Derrick Allen Clay with those charges as of 11/15/2023.

**The theft and found property reports were filed separately. There was no indication in the original reports that the incidents were related. They were paired together here because the same person called in incidents at the same address.
