A semi-truck that caught on fire claimed the life of one man on I-70 in Saline County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the accident at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon on I-70 near the 78.8 mile marker.

According to the online crash report, a 2014 International was traveling west, when a tire on the towed unit caught fire. The driver attempted to move the vehicle to the shoulder of the road, but struck a guardrail and traveled off the right side of the road. As the truck left the roadway, it became fully engulfed in flames, trapping the driver inside.

The driver, 66-year old Richard L. Slack, of Bolivar, MO, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was taken to the Saline County Coroner's office.
