SFCC Roadrunner Baseball Players Earn Postseason Honors

Several student-athletes earned postseason awards after the first baseball season since the resumption of the program at State Fair Community College.

Coaches in Region 16 and the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) voted to determine the recipients. SFCC finished the season 23-28.

Zack Ehlen, freshman outfielder, was named second team All-Region. He also was named to the All-MCCAC baseball team along with sophomore infielder Tanner Cantrell. Freshmen pitchers Chase Plymell and Jake McMahill earned MCCAC honorable mention honors.

Ehlen led in batting with a .360 average and played in all 51 games. He recorded a team-high 67 hits and 16 doubles. He led in stolen bases with 22 and finished second with 38 RBIs.

“Zack was our most consistent hitter,” said head coach Jud Kindle. “He was near the top in runs scored and RBIs. Zack was good on offensive as well as defense.”

Cantrell led in slugging percentage at .545 and tied for the lead in home runs with nine. He led in RBIs with 47 and walks with 33. Cantrell hit .309 in his only season as a Roadrunner.

“A lot of teams pitched around Tanner, so his numbers are somewhat deceptive,” said Kindle. “He had a four to one walk to strikeout ratio. He did a good job producing runs and covered first base well for us.”

Plymell led the pitching staff in victories with six and led in innings pitched with 62.
“Chase was our most consistent pitcher this year,” said Kindle. “He went 6-3 this year and deserves this recognition.”

McMahill recorded three victories and pitched 54 2/3 innings, which placed him second on the team in innings pitched. He struck out a team-high 70 batters and ended the season with a 4.45 earned run average.

“McMahill had some good outings in conference play for us,” said Kindle.
