Shirley May McCown died on Monday, April 6, 2015 surrounded by family and loved ones at Winchester Meadows in Sedalia.

She was born on September 5, 1926 in Plymouth, Iowa daughter of Marvin Robert and Rose Wasiceh Schell.

On November 16, 1946 in Sedalia she married Wallace G. McCown, Sr. and he preceded her in death on April 26, 2000.

At the age of 5 she moved with her family to Mountain Grove, Missouri, They later moved to Hughesville where she attended school for 6 years. They then moved to Longwood where she graduated in 1945 from Houstonia High School. Shirley and Wally with his brother Melvin and wife Emogene started McCown Bros. Salvage business which ran for 52 years.

She enjoyed having family dinners and celebrations. She was very involved with her grandchildren's activities and lives. She celebrated the same birth date with her granddaughter Suzanne and her granddaughter Christine and Tony were married on November 16, 1996 on Wally and Shirley 50th wedding anniversary. She was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women and later Parkview Christian Church in Sedalia.

Shirley belonged to several clubs and organizations including Womens Democratic Club, Be Forever Young, American Legion Womens Auxillary as a 41 year member, Flat Creek Extension Club, Candle Lighters - children with cancer, Parkview Lady's Outreach, Helping Hands and Pettis County Jail Vistors Board.

She loved to travel including Germany twice, New Mexico, North Carolina and Texas to visit her grandchildren who served in the Air Force.

Surving are four daughters; Linda Simon (Richard), Vicki Mewes (Rich), Sheri Hancock (Larry), Cathy Paxton (Sam) and one son; Wally McCown, Jr. (Barbara) all of Sedalia, one brother Robert (Bob) Schell (Ruby) of Sedalia, several nieces and nephews, seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, husband and one grandson Dwayne Simon.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 10, 2015 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Rev. Rodney Brown and Rev. Mary Biesemeyer officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Zachary Hancock, Chase Johnson, Chance Johnson, Tollie Rowe, Jeff Johnson and Neil Trout. Honorary pallbearers will be Don and Suzanne Bartok Wolfe, Anthony Bottom, Jeramy Paxton, Betty Hickam, Jane Kelley, Sharon and J.T. Blankenship and Derek Neel.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Parkview Christian Church or New Bethel United Methodist Church. You may leave condolences online at ewingschuttesemlerfh.com
