Smith-Cotton Homecoming Activities
The Smith-Cotton Tigers have planned numerous activities in the school district and that all of Sedalia can participate in. Here is a look at the weekly activities planned.
SMITH-COTTON HOMECOMING WEEK ACTIVITIES
Smith-Cotton High School students and teachers will have a food drive for the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri. The goal is 4,000 cans of food. There will be a competition among sophomores, juniors, seniors and teachers to see who will collect the most food.
Washington and Skyline elementaries also will conduct food drives during the week.
High School Homecoming Spirit Days
Monday: Roaring ‘20s Day
Tuesday: Cowboys and Indians Day
Wednesday: Zombie Day
Thursday: Hollywood Day
Friday: Black and Gold Day
The bonfire is set for 8 p.m. Thursday behind Susie Ditzfeld Memorial Field at Skyline Elementary. Hot dogs, chips and lemonade will be available. There also will be a junk car to beat on with a 10-pound sledge—3 whacks for $1, and a dunking booth — two shots for a $1.
Junior High Day of Service
S-C Junior High students will continue the tradition of devoting the Friday of homecoming week to giving back to the community. Team Victory will conduct a walkathon to benefit the local firefighters memorial fund. Other students will walk to Horace Mann Elementary, picking up trash along the way, then helping Horace Mann students make signs for the parade. Another group will decorate the downtown area.
Lineup for the Homecoming Parade begins at 3 p.m. Friday. The parade starts at the junior high and makes its way north on Massachusetts Avenue to 7th Street, heads west on 7th to Ohio Avenue, north on Ohio to Main Street, west on Main to Osage Avenue then south on Osage.
The Sedalia School District Foundation’s Annual Tailgate Party begins at 5 p.m. Friday at Jennie Jaynes Stadium. This complimentary cookout (donations accepted) allows alumni a chance to spend time visiting with classmates, friends and family.
Homecoming football game
The Smith-Cotton Tigers take on the Center High Yellowjackets, with kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday.
After the game, Smith-Cotton alumni are invited to an “Alum-Fest” at Dukes & Boots, 21746 West 50 Highway.
