Smith-Cotton High senior forward/striker Alex Esquivel, a first team All-State selection in 2017, has accepted a scholarship to play soccer at Drury University in Springfield.

A three-time letterman and two-year captain for the Tigers, Esquivel was selected to the All-West Central Conference and All-District teams in 2016 and 2017. He also was first team All-Region in 2017, as well as the District and Region Offensive Player of the Year.

In addition, he was selected to the United Soccer Coaches All Central Region Team for 2017. His senior year, Esquivel helped lead the Tigers to a 26-2 record and conference and district titles. S-C lost at Kickapoo, 2-1, in the sectional final.

Over his Smith-Cotton career, Esquivel racked up 51 goals and 29 assists. He holds the S-C boys soccer records for most points in a single game with 13 (six goals, one assist) and is tied for most goals in single game (six).

S-C Boys Soccer Head Coach Ethan Weller said: “Alex has been a great player and role model for the Smith-Cotton soccer program.  I’m excited for him to take the next step in his athletic and academic career and see where it takes him."
