Results from the May 20 Sedalia Police Department/West Central DWI Task Force Sobriety Checkpoint were tallied and released Thursday morning.

The checkpoint took place late on a Friday night from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Near 12th and Winchester in Sedalia. A total of 257 drivers were checked during the three-hour time period, the report said. Taking part in the checkpoint were Sedalia Police Pettis County Sheriff's deputies and Cole Camp Police, with the following results:

One arrest for DWI
Three citations for No Operator's license
Two arrests for Outstanding Warrants
Two arrests for Driving While Suspended or Revoked
One Municipal summons for Open Container Violation
One Arrest for Unlawful Use and Concealment of a Weapon

Future sobriety checkpoints are planned for the area, the SPD said. The goal of the checkpoints is to “ensure the safety of the motoring public” and to “deter drunk driving and other crimes that affect our community,” the press release said.
