If you’re looking for some fun and a little light competition to fight for a great cause, you should definitely clear your calendar for Saturday, March 22. The Smithton 3 X 3 Basketball tournament is getting players signed up now. The tournament is for boys and girls in third grade through high school.

War is never pretty, especially when children are among the victims.

It was freezing cold on Saturday, and there was a threat of bad snow that never came. But either way, there were several brave souls who made sure to show up and see the big Monster Truck Sergeant Smash at America's Car Mart on Saturday (March 1).

I'm sure you guys remember all the very rude weather we had a while back. As a result of that, a lot of great events got cancelled because it just wasn't safe to ask people to get out. The 17th Annual Cupid's Ball was one of those events, and Sedalia heard the horrible sound of so many little hearts breaking at once. Well now the event is back on, scheduled for Saturday, March 29!

Sedalia Noonday Optimist Club is always doing something in our area to help kids. They do the Haunted Hayride, Casino Night, golf tournaments, and breakfasts like these. Sedalia Noonday Optimist Club held their 10th Annual Breakfast at the Little Big Horn Cattle Company on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri had their huge event, An Evening of Heart and Hope, on Saturday (February 8). I got to go and it was a hugely fancy event with lots of laughs, love and helping hands.

Well, through all this crazy weather, there's been a lot of cancellations.  And with that, came a lot of disappointment all throughout our area.  Well, we have some great news! The Women’s Service League of Sedalia has rescheduled the 17th Annual Cupid’s Ball, Journey to Oz , for Saturday, March 29, 2014.

When I was a kid, I pretty much just did kid stuff.  I tried to eat candy, I played in the yard, and I didn't have to do anything that you'd qualify as "responsible." Heck, even now I pretty much still eat candy and goof around on the Nintendo.  And then I hear stories like this one, and I'm thinking, "Wow.  This person has done more in one day that I did all year!"

We've been talking with Matt LaCasse and the gang from the Boys and Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri every week now for a while, reminding you about the upcoming Evening of Heart and Hope.  I think it's an important way for us in Sedalia to give back to the ones in our community who need it: our kids.
