Pettis County Commission Announces Christmas Lighting Contest For The County

Pettis County Presiding Commissioner John Meehan announced today (Dec. 4) that the county will hold their first Christmas Lighting Contest this year. The county contest will be held for those living in Pettis County outside of Sedalia.

40 & 8 Commander Tony Gallagher Thanks the Community for Strong Support on Veterans Day

SEDALIA (Tony Gallagher, 40 & 8 Commander) -  Veteran's Day 2013!  What a great day from start to finish!  The S-C JROTC served a delicious breakfast to all veterans and their families at the high school.  This was followed by a great program in the gymnasium with honors paid to all the veterans.  I very much appreciated being asked to be the main speaker and was humbled.

Veterans Day Ceremony at Pettis County Courthouse Honors Local Servicemembers [PHOTOS]

Many veterans and supporters gathered around the Pettis County Courthouse for the Veterans Day Ceremony today (Nov. 11). The ceremony is traditionally done on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month nationwide. This was originally Armistice Day and is now known as Veterans Day.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Reports Fatal Accidents in Pettis County and Benton County Over the Weekend

At 2:10 p.m. last Friday (Oct. 25), the Missouri State highway patrol reported a fatality accident on Route “W” East of Route “M” in Pettis County. The accident occurred as the 1998 Pontiac driven by 36-year-old Tracie Gibson of Smithton ran off of the roadway, struck a ditch, overturned, striking a fence and some trees before coming to rest on its wheels

With the show "Who Do You Think You Are?" and scrapbooking events, people find that looking back in their past is something very important to them. Preserving history and finding connections to long gone family members can become something very intensely important for these folks. There's a group in our area that have been working on that very thing since 1968.

Going Green: Solar Panels Arrive at Pettis County Courthouse

Pettis County became one step closer to going green as 1000 pound crates of solar panels were slowly lifted to the roof of the Pettis County Court House. The Hugh Crane from W&M Welding began the operation on the south side of the Pettis County Courthouse a little after 8:00 this morning (Aug. 30).
