Smith-Cotton Tigers Prepare for Round Two of McDonald’s Boys Basketball Classic

The 2013 McDonald's Boys Classic brings on second round action today.  They hope to have all the games back at Smith-Cotton High School gym after losing power for the final two games in the first round yesterday (Jan. 10), utilizing the Smith-Cotton Jr. High gym to finish the first round.

The Smith-Cotton Tigers will be hosting the 2013 McDonald's Boys & Girls Basketball Tournament at Smith-Cotton High School.  The McDonald's Boys Classic will be held on Jan. 10-12 and the McDonald's Girls Classic will be held on Jan. 17-19.

Read the Parent Letter Sent by Sedalia School District #200 Regarding Reported Threats of Violence

School officials have issued to the parents of students a letter to regarding the recent reports of threats of violence at Smith-Cotton High School.  The letter states that the high school "received information regarding a possible act of school violence that was to be perpetrated on school grounds," and that the case has been turned over to the Pettis County Juvenile Office for further action.

Brad Pollitt, Assistant Superintendent of the Sedalia School District, addressed the recent rumors of kids possibly committing violent acts at Smith-Cotton High School in an interview this morning.  After a joint investigation with school officials, the student resource officer and the Pettis County Juvenile Office, no credible threats of violence were found.  The rumored acts were said to be surrounding what ancient Mayans claimed to be the end of the world.

The Smith Cotton Softball Banquet was held last Monday night (October 22).  Even though the team had a disappointing record of 5-17, 3-5 in conference, they did have five girls receive post season honors.

Smith-Cotton Travels to St. Pius to Wrap Up Regular Season

The Smith-Cotton football Tigers end their regular season at St. Pius Friday night (October 19).  The outcome of this game will determine final seedings in the districts which begin Friday, October 26.  The Tigers need a two touchdown win over St. Pius to help secure a home field advantage to begin the Districts.
