There’s not a lot the ‘Transformers’ movies and ‘The Big Lebowski’ have in common. Yet, buried within ‘Age of Extinction’ is a very Dude-like easter egg for those who are paying attention. It’s become fashionable in recent years to hate the Golden Raspberry Awards (AKA, the Razzies) and for good reason. The inherently negative awards claim to celebrate the worst films of the year, but they frequently nominate or “honor” ambitious misfires or boring studio junk over the real worst films of the year. To be fair, the Razzies are and have always been a big silly joke, but they’re a joke that leaves a bad taste in the mouth. And yet, it’s really hard to look at this year’s nominees and disagree. With a handful of minor exceptions, this looks like a year where the Razzies actually, well, kinda’ got it right.

Major holiday weekends are often huge for the box office, with millions of Americans taking advantage of their extra time off to head out to the movies. But this fourth of July weekend? Not so much. Despite three new releases, it was a surprisingly quiet time at the movies these past few days and it's hard to imagine anyone being particularly overjoyed with these numbers...

Look, everyone knows that it's your obligation as a human being to go see a new 'Transfomrers' movie when it comes out whether you want to or not. It's the only explanation for the success of the past three films (since no one actually likes them) and it's the only explanation for the massive first weekend of 'Transformers: Age of Extinction,' which had the biggest opening of 2014 so far.

'Transformers 4' is purportedly a soft reboot of the franchise, setting up an entirely new set of adventures and carrying on with a mostly new human cast. However, director Michael Bay is still at the helm, so it's no surprise it still, for better or worse, feels like the same thing. 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' has just debuted a new trailer, and it's been released just in time to play before this weekend's 'Godzilla.' It's as if Michael Bay and company are saying "yeah, you've may have a fire breathing gigantic lizard, but we've got fire breathing gigantic dinobots. Check. Mate."

Michael Bay's 'Pain and Gain' arrived in theaters this weekend, so naturally, everyone is asking him about 'Transformers 4' and 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.' Although both films don't arrive until 2014, Bay offered additional information about them that will possibly ease the jittery nerves of fanboys all over the world.
