This Fast Food Joint Is Stealing Missouri’s Iconic Guber Burger

The iconic Guber Burger that Sedalia, and to a lesser extent, Missouri, is famous for is being stolen by a fast food place as part of a promotion. So is this fast food joint doing right by the Guber Burger, or are they just bastardizing what was near perfect when you could get it at The Wheel Inn? Keep reading, and you be the judge.

For the uninitiated, the Guber Burger is a Sedalia area delicacy made famous by the Wheel Inn Drive-In here in town. According to The Kitchen, the original recipe was a burger slathered in mayo, lettuce, tomato, and peanut butter.

Today in Sedalia, the Guber Burger is available at two local places, Kehde's BBQ and Goody's. If you don't think Sedalian's take their Guber Burgers seriously, you don't need to look any further than when Behka and Lori had me try one at Kehde's. They both just looked at me, stared at me, and gave me this "I dare you to not like this" look until I rendered my verdict, I liked it.

Well, one of the folks that's part of the brain trust at Sonic's kitchen, finally figured out what most of us in Sedalia already know: peanut butter tastes good with hamburger.

Here's how Sonic is doing their peanut butter burger combination. "Starting January 8, guests can experience the unique pairing of peanut butter and bacon with the new Peanut Butter Bacon SuperSONIC® Double Cheeseburger and the Peanut Butter Bacon Shake. These flavors may sound too extreme, but don’t knock ‘em until you try ‘em!"

The full ingredient list for Sonic's Peanut Butter Bacon SuperSonic Double Cheeseburger is two 100% percent beef patties, creamy peanut butter, crispy bacon, grilled onions, and melty cheese on a toasted bun. Close, but not really a Guber Burger is it?

Personally, I'd have them 86 the cheese and grilled onions. Much like if I'm getting a Guber Burger from Goody's I'd have them 86 the lettuce and tomato.

Sonic's Peanut Butter Bacon SuperSonic Double Cheeseburger will be available starting January 8, 2023, and will be available until February 4, 2023.
