The long national nightmare is over.

Twinkies are coming back!

The iconic cupcake will return to stores this summer after a pair of private equity companies agreed to buy Hostess.

Apollo Global Management, LLC and Metropoulos & Co. will purchase the Hostess and Dolly Madison brands for $410 million.

Metropoulous & Co. founder and CEO Dean Metropoulos released a statement which should bring joy to every cupcake lover with a pulse and insatiable need for sugar:

We are very pleased to have the opportunity to bring back ‘America’s favorite snack.’  Apollo and I are proud to be associated with such an outstanding set of  brands. This transaction will ensure the beloved Hostess snack cakes can continue to be enjoyed for years to come. We look forward to returning the iconic Hostess products, including Twinkies, Ding Dongs, and HoHos, to consumers as soon as possible.”

Twinkies and the roster of other Hostess treats have not been made since November when the company had to file bankruptcy after a strike by the Bakery Workers union.

When Hostess closed its doors, more than 18,000 people lost their jobs. It’s unclear how many of them will be brought back. We're guessing only the "cream" of the crop will get the call.
