William Leo Roe, 86

Wilbur Leo Roe, 86, of Belton, TX, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in Temple, TX.

He was born August 17, 1926, in Sedalia, MO, to Willie and Pearl Roe. He graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1944. On June 21, 1947, in Sedalia, he married Doris May Leicher.

Mr. Roe worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 42 years before retiring in 1986. Wilbur was very active in the community. He was a manager with the Khoury League Softball program for 22 years. He was Assistant Scout Master for troops 50 and 61 for many years and received the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award. He served on the Building and Grounds committee and was a trustee for the West Central Christian Service Camp. He was a member and served as a deacon and Chairman of Transportation at Parkview Christian Church. He also served on the Planning and Building Committee for Koinonia Heights. He served as Secretary and Treasurer of Brotherhood of Railway, Airlines and Steamship Clerks Union 25 for 16 years.

Mr. Roe was a Sgt. in World War II, serving in Central Europe. He earned the following decorations and citations: WWII Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, two Overseas Service Bars, Germany Occupational Medal  and the Good Conduct Medal.
He is survived by four children, Karan Long (Dick), of Sedalia, Debbie Nagel (Gary), of Broken Arrow, OK, Bill Roe (Penny), of Omaha, NE, and Jo Wasson (Steve), of Belton, TX; eleven grandchildren, Chris Long, Matt Long, Jaime McCoy, Jeremy Nagel, Brian Nagel, Sarah Nagel, Jada Roe, Madison Roe, Piper Roe, Haley Wasson and Chelsey Wasson; twelve great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Clarence Roe, of Salisbury, MO, and Robert Roe, of Sedalia.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years on May 30, 2012; his parents; one brother, Lawrence Roe; and one sister, Mary Lou Roe.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Nagel officiating.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, with military rites by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 2591.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time Sunday at Heckart Funeral Home.
