Sammy Altena showed timely hitting on Monday, driving in six on three hits to lead Sacred Heart past Smithton 12-2 on Monday at home.

Altena drove in runs on a single in the first, a triple in the third, and a double in the fourth.

Sacred Heart secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the fourth inning. The Lady Gremlins's big bats in the inning were led by a single by Olivia Dobson, a groundout by Hayden Altena, a fielder's choice by Zoe Martin, and a double by Sammy Altena.

Emma Schouten earned the win for Sacred Heart. The pitcher lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out six and walking one. Martin threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

The Lady Gremlins racked up 16 hits in the game. Sammy Altena , Dobson, Veronica Vanegas, Claire Smeltzer, Maria Mergen, and Schouten all had multiple hits for Sacred Heart. Sammy Altena went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Sacred Heart in hits.

This brings the Sacred Heart Varsity to a 7-6 record.

The Gremlins are on the road to Bunceton (1-6) Thursday.


Sacred Heart JV Brings Home The Win Over Smithton

The Sacred Heart JV won 5-4 over Smithton on Monday night. Olivia Dobson, Hayden Altena and Sammy Altena went 2-2 at the plate. Hayden Altena drove in 3 RBIs on the night.

Zoe Martin toed the rubber for the Lady Gremlins, going 2 innings and striking out four. Emma Siron threw one inning in relief, striking out two.

This brings the Sacred Heart JV to a 6-2 record.
