[Update] It has been determined that the van spotted in Cooper County was not the van described in the initial Tennessee AMBER Alert. 

From the Cooper County Emergency Management Agency:

Tuesday morning the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible sighting regarding a Tennessee Amber Alert. The sighting reportedly occurred on Monday the 9th. The possible sighting took place on the Lamine River near Clifton City.

Responding units saturated the area and commenced a search. Boats and aircraft were utilized during the search as well as ground units. As a result of the search contact was made with area residents who reported seeing a van matching the description of the Amber Alert van.

Further investigation revealed the van was not the van described in the initial TN Amber Alert. No other information has developed regarding the possible sighting. Officials continue investigating to determine if the sighting may have been local residents.

[Original story] An AMBER Alert has been issued in Cooper County for a missing 9-year-old girl from Tennessee. According to the alert, Carlie Trent and Gary Simpson may have been seen on Monday in Otterville.

Trent has been missing since last Wednesday, according to the Associated Press, who reports that Carlie was signed out of school under false pretenses by her non-custodial uncle, 57-year-old Gary Simpson. The AP says that Simpson had recently lost custody of the girl.

It is believed that Trent and Simpson are traveling in a white 2002 Ram 1500 van with a dark stripe down the middle, with Tennessee license number 173GPS.

Carlie Trent is described as 4 foot 8 inches tall and weighs 75 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Simpson is balding, 5 foot 10 inches tall and weighs 157 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. Trent was last seen wearing a black and gray tank top and blue jeans. Simpson was last seen wearing a brown cap, a dark colored shirt and jeans.

The Cooper County Sheriff's Department has issued an AMBER Alert for a child abduction that occurred in Rogersville, Tennessee on 5/5/2016. The abducted child is Carlie Trent, who was last seen wearing a black and gray tank top and blue jeans. The suspect is Gary L. Simpson, who was last seen wearing a brown cap, a dark colored shirt and jeans. They may be traveling in the listed vehicle. Information obtained on 5/10/2016 indicates that the subjects were possibly sighted in the Otterville, Missouri area on 5/9/2016. Anyone having any information should dial 911 or call the Cooper County Sheriff's Department at 660-882-2614.
