Team and project applications are now available for the Sedalia-Pettis County United Way's annual Day of Caring.

"The Day of Caring is a time that allows neighbors to help neighbors," said Staci Harrison, executive director of Sedalia-Pettis County United Way. "The focus is to be able to help veterans, elderly, disabled, or very low-income families with a one-day project that they can't do on their own, financially or physically. It could be as simple as hauling away items, cleaning up the yard, trimming the tress, painting or very minor repair work."

2018 will mark the fourth year that Sedalia-Pettis County has sponsored the Day of Caring in our community. 155 volunteers participated in the inaugural Day of Caring. That number has grown significantly. About 400 people volunteered their time in last year's event. Past projects have included gutting a home that had been damaged by fire, to building wheelchair ramps.

"It's been a lot of fun," said Harrison. "It's an opportunity to give somebody a hand up and just do what we're supposed to do, in taking care of each other. Sometimes somebody just needs a little bit of help, and so we try to provide the help through the generosity and love that teams provide."

The Day of Caring in 2018 will be on Saturday, September 29.
