Betty Joe Wells, 92, of Sedalia, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013, at Fair View Nursing Home.

She was born June 3, 1921, in Sedalia, daughter of Lawson and Josephine May McCurdy. On September 29, 1940, she married Leon Roy Wells, who preceded her in death on July 21, 2010.

Mrs. Wells was the longest living member of First Christian Church and was active in the Christian Women's Association. She was in charge of the church's service day and made, stuffed and sold enough Humpty Dumpty dolls to buy a dishwasher for the church.

She was a homemaker, but in her younger years worked for Town and Country Shoes and House of Fabrics. She had been a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of Smith-Cotton High School.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, playing cards, crocheting, canning and making cinnamon rolls. She had booths at craft shows over the years. She and Leon wintered in Texas for 18 years and enjoyed summers at Bennett Springs.

Surviving are three children, Sara Rich (Arthur), of Sedalia, Richard Wells (Linda), of North Carolina, and Lance Wells (Linda), of Sedalia; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, John McCurdy, of Santa Maria, CA; a sister, Mary Frances Herndon, of Sedalia; and grand-dogs and cats.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chad McMullin officiating.
Casket bearers will be Lance Wells, Paul Musslin, Jonathan Musslin, Zachary Bay, Leonard Hall and Walter Von Holten.
Honorary bearers will be Jimmy Wise and Charles Wise.

Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Heckart Funeral Home.
