A 35-year old man from California, MO was recently arrested in Moniteau County after a K-9 unit alerted to the presence of drugs in a vehicle.

A press release from the Moniteau County Sheriff's Office indicates that on Thursday morning, deputies received a report of suspicious activity on Whipoorwill Road just east of California, MO.

Upon arrival, deputies located a vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Law enforcement then reportedly observed the driver, Jacob P. Murphy, reach under the seat of the car. Deputies ordered Murphy to exit the vehicle, but he refused.

Officers drew tazers on Murphy at which time he reportedly complied with orders and stepped out of the car. Murphy was found to have a suspended license and was on probation.

Deputies say they asked Murphy for consent to search the vehicle, which he denied. Moniteau Co deputies then called for a K-9 unit, which alerted to the presence of drugs in the car, which included methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Murphy was arrested and taken to the Moniteau County Jail for Possession of a Controlled Substance (meth). He had a bond of $40,000.
