Well as if I needed confirmation, looks like science has discovered something about cats.  They can be PSYCHOS!   As a proud cat owner, I can tell you....DUH!

I have grown up with pets in my home since I was an infant.  And since my line of work has taken me to various parts of the country, having a dog just isn't an option for me.  I am not home enough, and not every place that you want to live will allow dogs.  So having a cat was always a good choice, and they make great companions.  But yes, they can do some crazy things!

Researchers conducted a story that involved more than 2000 cat owners, and they were presented with 46 "psychopathic" behaviors and they had to say how well each one described their pet.  Some of the behaviors included:

"My cat torments their prey rather than killing it right away"

"My cat vocalizes loudly for no apparent reason"

"My cat is very excitable and goes into overdrive and becomes uncoordinated"

Now If I am being honest, some of this hits home.  My Apollo has done this for sure.  He certainly is a talker, and when he has fresh food, water, and a clean litter box, I wonder why he so talkative.  Perhaps he is just trying to say thank you, or wants a little attention.  Either way, it usually stops after a minute.

The lead researcher on the study believes all cats "have an element of psychopathy as it would have once been helpful for their ancestors in terms of acquiring items like food, territory, and mating opportunities".   Either way, if you own a cat, you know that they have their own personalities and bond with their humans.  They are inexpensive companions and really seem to sense when their owners are not in the best place.  I would not trade Apollo for anything, and despite the fact that he sometimes goes a little crazy, the good FAR outweighs the bad.  Perhaps this Christmas, check out the local shelter and adopt one for your home.  Remember it is a lifetime commitment.  And it will be worth every penny you spend on them.  He is my family, and I know if you own a cat, you can relate.
