Charles Dan Smith, 93, of Sedalia, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 at Fair View Nursing Home.

Born May 3, 1920 in Hughesville, he was the son of the late William T. and Ora L. Skinner Smith. On October 25, 1941 in Princeton, MO he married the love of his life for 71 years, June Hurd, who preceded him in death on January 6, 2013.

 

Dan served his country during World War II with the rank of master Sergeant in the South Pacific. He was a Baptist and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Dan served many years on the Hughesville School Board. He was a dairy farmer until going to work for CMEC in 1963 until his retirement.

 

Dan is survived by two sons, Daniel (Patty) Smith, of Sedalia and David (Lynn) Smith, of Houstonia; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother; and one sister.

Dan was preceded in death by a daughter, Dana Smith Buso; three brothers; two sisters; and two great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ted Francis officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial with full military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church or Bothwell Hospice, in care of the funeral chapel.
