Just after 9:00 Sunday morning (Feb 11), the Clinton, MO Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 1600 N. Water Street Lot #18.

The Clinton Fire Department says personnel responded in two apparatus. While en route, information was reportedly received that the trailer home was unoccupied and fire and smoke was beginning to show from the front door area of the residence.

Upon arrival fire personnel found a single wide trailer home with smoke coming from the front of the residence and fire showing from the exterior around the front door. Fire crews deployed a hose line and made their way to the front door of the home to prepare to extinguish the fire.

Upon forcing entry into the home, firefighters found a small fire in the interior living room area next to the front door. The fire was brought under control and an investigation into the cause of the fire began. Crews were on scene for approximately four hours.

The fire department says evidence was found to suggest the fire had been intentionally set. The trailer home had been without utilities or active tenants for several years. After interviewing neighbors and piecing together information, officers requested the assistance of the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office to determine a cause.

An investigation is ongoing and a suspect has not been identified at this time. More information will be released as it becomes available.
